The transparency
of mysterious objects
changes according to the light.
In his porcelain art, ceramicist Mathias Pfeiffer presents sculptural works intending to imbue everyday objects with references to nature without sacrificing their functional aspects. The purity of light and subtle white tones allow for an exploration of the manifold surface structures and details. The transparency of these mysterious objects changes according to the light incidence, turning them from cool, smooth forms into warm bodies emphasising organic outlines. Mathias Pfeiffer's artwork has been shown in numerous galleries and exhibitions across Europe, Africa and South America as well as the United States.
Selected pieces have also been sold at the Guggenheim Shop in New York City.
"My ceramic lamps are made from porcelain and inspired by the play of light that surrounds us. Each one is hand-crafted and one-of-a-kind. The forms are shaped on the potter's wheel with the thinnest possible thickness, ensuring maximum light transparency. Soft, free-formed porcelain is then textured and crafted to create lamps with unique shapes and surfaces. Before being fired at 1260°C, each lamp is treated with a transparent glaze which further enhances its translucency. The work strives to find the perfect balance between natural form and a living one.”
